Animal Corner — Scottish Highlander
If you’ve driven through our park, then you may have noticed a bull with a thick, shaggy orange coat. He is our Scottish Highlander, which is a breed of cattle from Scotland that lives very close to the Arctic Circle. Their coat is so thick and strong so they can live comfortably in the very cold, sometimes mountainous areas where they live.
Because many Scottish Highlanders live on snowy mountains, food can sometimes be tricky to find. They use the long, heavy and wide horns on top of their heads to break through snow to find grasses and other plants buried underneath. Compared to Scottish Arctic mountains, mid-Missouri weather must seem breezy and relaxing in comparison! Bring your family by while the weather is still warm to see the cattle with the shaggy hair. The Scottish Highlanders are always happy to have visitors!
