The Siberian tiger, also called the Amur tiger, is a species of tiger indigenous to mountainous areas, primarily in Russia and surrounding areas. Known for their size, brilliant coat and beauty, this species has long fascinated man. Unfortunately, they are endangered and conservation efforts are in place to try and keep this magnificent animal from becoming extinct.
Male Siberian tigers can weigh around 600 pounds with females frequently weighing over 300 pounds. Like all tigers, Siberians are carnivores that hunt to sustain themselves. In the wild they hunt for boar and elk, but will settle for other types of prey as they are available. Currently more Siberians exist in captivity than in the wild.
